Why your Old AOL screen-names are really important
the next guy i meet, im just gonna ask what his screen-names were in middle school/early high-school, because we all know that by junior year, we changed our screen-names to seem more “professional” cool, which is why we all have lame gmail addresses now. But if you look back at those screen-names you can draw a lot of information from them.
For example, here is a short history of my screen-names.
1. brownEydGirl2000 (circa 2000) this was my first screen-name. got it in 8th grade, only to find out i was like a year late and everyone had already had one for like eevvverrrrr, which was totally embarrassing. anyways at the time, i was really proud of having brown eyes i guess. now looking back, this makes me look like the boringest, lamest person ever. brown eyes are so uncool!!!!!
2. LinkinGirl567 (circa 2000) dont even start with me. all the cool kids were listening to linkin park so i just hopped on the bandwagon. obviously the only way to show affection towards a music band was to have your screen-name reference them. duh.
3. ManuelaOdell92 (circa 2001) When i moved to a new high school, i lied and said i didn’t have a screen-name, so i made up the most basic one. i thought it was cool cos it had my full name and the street that i lived on.
4. Punkyfish759 (circa 2001) Someone told me that putting my full name and street in a screen-name was like the stupidest thing ever, and did i want to be kidnapped and raped? and that i should change it. i used to wear this shirt that said punkyfish, so my friend had a brilliant idea and told me to make my screen-name punkyfish. then i added some random numbers to give myself this mysterious and esoteric aura. “what do those numbers mean?” they would ask. “you dont want to know…” id respond
5. mgirlboo87 (circa 2002) who knows why i made this one. I was just over my faux-punk persona and wanted to be a little more mature or something. it also gave me an “in” with the hip-hop kids. they were like oh we can chat with you cos you have the word “boo” in your screen-name. very strategic on my part.
6. InCuBu$ruLeZ (circa 2002) started getting reaaaaalllyyy into incubus and then my bff samantha changed her screen-name to InCuBusAtTaCkS87 and i got so jealous that i had to change mine obvi. I can remember the exact letters that I capitalized but you get the idea.
7. mgirlboo87(c.2002-present) brought this baby back and have been with him ever since.
